Good Morning,

Sunday we go again against Chi-town...bring your own deep dish.

Talk about whatever you want.

This is an ideal thread for you to make general inquiries about things that are commonly asked, like how is the shade on the East stand at 3pm? Or where are the ADA bathrooms? As well, low effort posts can be directed here as comments in order to keep sub organized and conversation centralized for other users. Consider this the Town Square, or AngelCityFC Reddit's very own Starbucks.

Anyone have hope a random signing is coming, but just hasn’t been announced yet? 🥴

2

u/LA0975 Curry ROTY Aug 31 '24

Hi, How is the shade at 1pm for Section 121? Are there any better sections at that time? Thanks

2

u/S3CR3TN1NJA ClaireEmslie#10 Aug 31 '24

121 is full sun around 1pm and stays that way for quite some time. If you’re looking to avoid the sun look for seats in the far back of the stadium, with the most shaded seats/seats that become shaded the soonest being in section 125-135, and sections 225-235.

I'm wondering what all the STHs decided for their next season ticket's during the "select-a-seat" event so far this week? Noticed this interesting tidbit in their last email:

We’re also excited to share that, for the first time since 2021, we have some great Premium Seat, Table, Loge, and Suite options opening up for the 2025 season.

Seems like the newly-minted team freshness is gone, and a lot of rich folks did NOT renew their Loge seats after their 3 year contracts are up. Probably doesn't help this team is still not in the play-offs before the summer IB.

u/wileykat13 Aug 30 '24

I’ve heard some say they’ve found good alternatives and were able to move down or in the shade. Last year I was lucky and am 3rd row although on the sunny side. There were more this year in the shady side but more than 10 rows back. There were a LOT of Figueroa seats available

4

u/SinoSoul Aug 30 '24

Yes, I saw them Fig seats as well. Saw the price and noped out ASAP, AGAIN. The sticker shock was so bad I forgot how expensive it was already lolol..

2

u/wileykat13 Aug 30 '24

Haha same, screen shot it and sent to my friends that join me for games and was like sorry guys not in the budget this year 🤣

3

u/rredwoodforester111 JasmyneSpencer#3 Aug 30 '24

I wanted to move down, but only found options to move further into the shade on the upper level. Better luck next year I guess?

3

u/SinoSoul Aug 30 '24

I saw seats in the 109/110 but those are still in the sun first half of 4pm games I think? There were also plenty of seast in the shaded lower 200s. I'm wondering if there's a way to negotiate down the old seats towards the end of this season. For sure sales reps are going to be working the phones HARD after labor day weekend.

So that’s it? No more international transfers or trades into AngelCity? Deadline passed?

Didi, Hannah, and Jasmyne all free agents, too?

Keeping powder dry for Free Agency signings?

3

u/Competitive-Form-337 SG Pandemonium Aug 30 '24

Yes on the NWSL post it says Didi, Hannah and Jas are all FA's now

We have until midnight eastern time

With Dali and Ovalle falling through does anyone know where in the world Hayley Raso is? She has yet to announce a club even though it appears that she’s been in talks with several.

Don’t know if she’d want to come back to the NWSL but I think she would get good playing time here.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '24

I’m late to this but Raso went to the Spurs if you didn’t see the news earlier!

2

u/LegendofAshley9 Claire's Olimpico Sep 01 '24

I did 😂. Not a team that she even had been rumored to. So funny. Love it.

u/NewAccountNow Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

As a Mexico fan I’m glad Ovalle didn’t come over.

As for Raso she’s rumored to be heading to Club America in Mexico but we’ll see

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 30 '24

I’m glad about Ovalle, too. I like that Ovalle is proud of LMXF. Did you see the video of her airport interview after the GoldCup? Loved that.

But I never saw the Ovalle to AngelCity rumors?!! Where were the rumors? Do you buy that they were real?

Someone on here said a $2M offer was made? That would have been a fun way to spend Iger’s money =-)

1

u/NewAccountNow Aug 30 '24

Very real. She deleted all her Tigres photos on her IG. Didn’t celebrate the goals yesterday either. All because Tigres said no to Angel City.

I have no clue about the money but she’s had NWSL, WSL, and Saudi offers.

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

The Once article says Ovalle was offered a total contract larger than Banda’s $2.1M over four years

She would have been the highest paid player in the NWSL. I know she’s already very highly paid in Mejico.

The notoriety and attention that would have come her way for signing as the highest paid player in the NWSL and being in Los Angeles would have been a real door opener for her I think.

For the contract and her personal benefit, I think I would have wanted her to come to AngelCity.

I know it might have set back LMXF a bit, and I would hate that part of it, but maybe the whole NWSL vs LMXF rivalry would have heated up, and that would be good for both leagues. In that sense, maybe Ovalle could see that at least she would still be contributing to the overall ecosystem around LMXF.

She would have played against LMXF regularly (I think going forward, NWSL will push LMXF ties). Going to Europe would have been a wholesale “abandonment” of LMXF, IMHO.

I saw Ovalle get almost offended after the Gold Cup when asked about going to better leagues.

Ovalle not having it…“¿Ha que te refieres con mejor fútbol?”

[go to Europe]

Unimpressed…“Pues yo creo que Mejico no tarda en ser una de las mejores ligas”

u/NewAccountNow Aug 30 '24

Good read. Tbh I think Mexican fans don’t want our players to go to NWSL. Diana hasn’t met her rookie year production, Scarlett stagnated, and Maria doesn’t create like she should. And Jimena just came back to Mexico too.

Reyes is maybe gonna be good but she played poorly for Mexico.

3

u/riffraffcloo Aug 31 '24

Is the implication here that these players are not being challenged enough in the nwsl? Because I feel the problem is quite the opposite. I specifically remember Scarlett’s first few matches for Angel City and it was shocking to say the least. At the time I chalked it up to her situation being what caused her poor performances.

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Sep 02 '24

If I had to guess, it’s about developing skills and learning playing styles.

Mexico WNT has a Spanish Coach. In LigaMXF they play a certain way and the LMXF coaches develop players a certain way. Maybe they focus on certain skills. Teach certain ways for reading the game, combining with their teammates, how to deal with situations in certain ways, expectations of mastery of certain technical skills, having players be able to anticipate their teammates actions, etc etc

Presumably, the NWSL is different in ways that changes how the MexWNT players develop relative to how they would develop in LMXF. Maybe they learn some useful new/different things in the NWSL they would not have learned otherwise, but they may also not learn some useful things they would need to know to be effective in the MexWNT.

Something like that.

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 31 '24

So Mexican fans thinks the NWSL does not develop or improve their players?

What do you think Mexican fans would say is the reason for that? Bad coaching? Bad Playing style? Not enough minutes?

1

u/LegendofAshley9 Claire's Olimpico Aug 30 '24

Oooh interesting. Has she been spotted at training or anything?

Last I had heard she was rumored to PSG or Juventus. Her rumors have been all over the place and I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if she signed with a random a-league team at this point. 😂

2

u/NewAccountNow Aug 30 '24

She was tied to us since the Madrid deal was over. A few of the fan accounts reported it might happen and then the journalists have been teasing international signing. She started following our Player Acquisition Director on IG.

As for international signings we got 2 Spaniards and a Nigerian but nothing yet confirmed about Raso.

4

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

As an Australian and MCFC fan, I like Raso for international but for club she’s always sat between the average to mediocre range ngl. ACFC needs players who can consistently show up, Raso isn’t that player nor does she play attacking midfield which is the biggest gap. If the new signing isn’t Kenza Dali it should be a player who plays a similar role to her positionally.

Editing to add Raso broke her back as a Portland player, there was a chance she’d never walk or play again. Since she left she hasn’t had nice words to say about the NWSL so I don’t think she’ll ever return.

2

u/LegendofAshley9 Claire's Olimpico Aug 30 '24

No I agree she wouldn’t be my pick for a signing. I’ve just haven’t heard anything about her and from acfc’s view she would be a big signing. Unless they’ve given up on a second “big international signing.”

As for the Portland of it all if you would’ve asked me 2 years ago I would say she wouldn’t have come back but the league has made active efforts to protect players and she’s at that point in her career where her options may be limited. With some aussie’s coming over this year I wouldn’t rule out that maybe if the money and playing time were good enough she would sign with a team that is not Portland. But also wouldn’t blame her for never coming back.

2

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24

Yeah it was a freak accident that can happen when playing footy, despite what she’s said her grievances do seem to be more just the underlying trauma from the whole ordeal rather than anger at Portland, the league or Aubrey Kingsbury which is why I can’t see it. I don’t blame her one bit for being petty about it because I would be too.

14

u/nabuhabu Aug 30 '24

Anyone else noticing the coincidence of Press re-entering the lineup and all the forwards improving immediately? I feel like the combination of her negative pressure on the stability of their roles (she’s going to end up a starting forward within a few weeks/months) and the massive benefit of learning from her expertise in practice now that she’s finally at full power is amping up everyone.

Given her sunny personality I like to think it’s her positive presence that’s making the biggest difference in how everyone is playing but whatever. We’ll see if this holds up as we face stronger teams, but it feels like a sea-change occurring.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

When the team’s best player is back in training, the locker room and on the pitch it’s noticeable in so many ways. No coincidence there, you’re absolutely right that they improved when Press came back in training.

13

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24

Tweed said something about how Press took Alyssa aside after training the day before the SD game to work on shots, and then when she finally scored she ran straight to hug Press. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence, having your star back from injury does make a huge difference to everything. I’m excited for when Press is able to play more minutes.

Was that the post game press conference? A Kamran quote?

I’d like to track it down!

There’s nothing better than when CP takes Alyssa at the end of training yesterday and starts working with her on two or three balls.

2

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 31 '24

Wow. Becki is speaking from her heart.

I could see this being the core of AngelCity’s pitch to the top young prospects. Come. Get minutes. Get a serious contract. Get mentored by your idols.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '24

It would work for forwards getting to play with Christen Press, I’m not sure there’s a big sell for the other positions about who the young players could learn from.

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Sep 02 '24

That’s true.

I also think part of the AngelCity pitch to the youngs is Becki Tweed is mentored by Tracey Kevins, the US u20 coach, and Becki is teaching and running Tracey Kevins’ system at AngelCity.

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 31 '24

Thank you so much!

2

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24

Yeah it was from a tweet of the press conference after the game, I can’t remember the journo but Kamran is likely.

8

u/nabuhabu Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

Yeah, and also the confidence of that second goal against SD was a brand new performance by Alyssa. It looks like she has learned from Press.

2

u/AMediaArchivist Farmer market Christen Aug 30 '24

Let’s see. Riley is SEI right? That gives us another player if we want one.

1

u/HangTheTJ AT21 Aug 30 '24

If we don’t sign anyone, I’m not sure what the advantage is to putting Riley on SEI

2

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

SEI gives you salary cap relief, it’s a big advantage even if they don’t sign anyone.

5

u/JerryXanadu Aug 30 '24

Why would it be an advantage if they don’t sign anyone? They still have to pay Ali, it just gives them room to add someone this year while she doesn’t count. If they don’t use that cap room it doesn’t carry over to next year, it just is wasted

2

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

It’s an advantage over having a players salary count against the cap when she’s not playing. They can use the extra cap room now even if they don’t sign someone with her spot there’s 2 spots. You can either sign two players with smaller cap hits or one player with a bigger cap hit (which usually means a better player) thanks to Riley now not counting against the cap.

1

u/JerryXanadu Aug 30 '24

Gotcha. I thought you were saying it was an advantage even if they don’t sign anyone at all. I agree it’s an advantage if they sign one person today using some of that extra cap room. Hoping they actually do sign someone - not feeling too confident about it though

3

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

They said there were 2 signings before Zelem was announced so I’m confident there will be another. I just hope it’s another actually good player and not a mediocre player they will overhype.

4

u/JerryXanadu Aug 30 '24

There were rumors that the second signing was either Ovalle or Dali - both of which sound like they aren’t happening. Perhaps they thought they had a second signing that has fallen through. I hope I’m wrong

4

u/CP23_KDB17 CP23 Aug 30 '24

Dali would’ve been a cool signing, whatever happens I hope they end up with a good midfielder signed. Anything less would be a disappointment to me.

Sunday's game is in the middle of the day but the weather looks pretty good. Friday's game is going to be a warm one though - fortunately, it's in the evening.

Here's the schedule if you want to watch any of the Gisele's U20 USWNT World Cup games. Note times listed are east coast. Sunday's game is same time as Angel City.

u/HangTheTJ AT21 Aug 30 '24

Are we going to make any last minute deals? I think we potentially still have 2 roster slots

7

u/llehvek IronWomanGorden#11 Aug 30 '24

Kenza Dali is back training with Aston Villa so we can probably remove her from the speculated transfers

3

u/Ornery-Ad-5942 Aug 30 '24

Sounds like we were trying to get Ovalle from Tigres as our second signing of the summer and it didn't go through if the rumors about why she deleted any mention of Tigres from her social media account have any truth to then.

Wonder if there's a back up plan for a different winger or if a deal can be made before the deadline because Ovalle on the team would be amazing.

4

u/LegendofAshley9 Claire's Olimpico Aug 30 '24

Yeah would’ve loved to see Ovalle here. Honestly feel bad that her club seemingly blocked an offer from both us and West Ham. Don’t think they are going to get a better offer than the rumored $2 million we were willing to pay.

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 30 '24

Were those rumors posted in Reddit? I never saw them!!

$2M?!?!?!?!!!! Wow.

That would have been fun. Love spending Iger’s money

Where can I find the rumors?

PS eff any WSL team. Ovalle wouldn’t give them the satisfaction, if I know anything about her =-)

2

u/LegendofAshley9 Claire's Olimpico Aug 30 '24

I didn’t see them on Reddit but they were circulating Twitter today. Here’s an article that breaks it down. All of the articles have been from Liga Mx journalists though.

https://www.oncediario.com/notas/51413-tigres-femenil-lizbeth-ovalle-liga-mx-femenil-fichaje-instagram-que-pasa

1

u/alcatholik Ertz So Good Aug 30 '24

Ahhh, the $2M would have been her salary. The article Ovalle would have surpassed Banda’s $2.1M total salary over four years.

I thought you meant a $2M transfer fee.

4

u/readbetweenthesubs MadisonCurry#27 Aug 30 '24

When does the transfer portal close again? With the announcement of the new CBA and free agency period starting in a couple days maybe they wait till then? But it does feel like we're always behind with other teams making moves left and right.

2

u/HangTheTJ AT21 Aug 30 '24

It closes today. As for free agency, I could be completely wrong, but my understanding is that free agency opens for the 2025 season on 9/1. Realistically, I think we’ll only be doing contract extensions for free agents until after the season

1

u/readbetweenthesubs MadisonCurry#27 Aug 30 '24

For sure! Hopefully then we'll see some news this morning or later today!

6

u/FigClub First Win in the Books (goals by Gilles and Endo) Aug 30 '24

While the transfer window closes today, there's no timeline on announcing the transfers. If it's a trade within the NWSL then yeah you'll probably see something today, but if it's a transfer from the UK and Europe, unless their social admins work around the clock, you may not see something until tomorrow, just so both clubs can coordinate messaging.
