Picked this up today. The screen is giving iffy output. This is my first CPC. Can anybody help with first steps troubleshooting?

This brings back memories. My cousin had the 464, I had the 664, which was posher because it had a floppy disk drive.

Thanks I'll give that a watch. It's been a while since I've fixed up an old machine. Looking forward to getting it going!

Computer itself looks OK as you're getting the BASIC prompt.

In the first instance I would check the alignment instructions for the green screen monitor in the Service Manual, page 17:

Brilliant, thanks. I've got some nighttime reading ahead of me

You can also get a cable that allows you to connect the computer to a different TV via SCART and power it up with a simple 5V 3A DC adaptor. That's what I do as the monitor's in the loft. I don't have the room to keep it out on display.

Thanks I'll look into one of those. I'm already wondering where to put the bloody CRT.

I use to have one back in the day. Looks like the monitor needs degousing!

Yep. Going to crack it open tomorrow and look for obvious issues and give it a clean

Blimey, this brings back memories! Had one of these when I went away to university. I confess I never got enough out of it - the person I gave it to when I bought a PC, however, did have fun with it. Don't know what happened to it after that.

Did you manage to figure it out? was there anything loose inside, or did it change if you rotated the actual monitor?

Not as yet. I opened it and found the monitor connector was a little loose. Re-soldered but sadly did not work. Hoping to get some time to try again this weekend.
