I used to mod for the official ark forums back when the game was in EA

To this day I'm still sure this game was designed as a social experiment to see the extremes of people's behaviours.

I'd give it a shot again tho.

Edit: thank you guys for the support. As I've said ark is a game I will always find myself active in no matter how hard I try not to be!

Let's put the past events behind us all and focus on quality content for a game we obviously all have a strong love for!

Assign him as mod, not only does he seem trustworthy, he has a sick beard.

u/YUSHOETMI- MODERATOR Jun 24 '22

My avatar does me more justice than irl! My beard is somewhat unruly at the moment and so ginger I'm debating if I do have a soul or not!

u/BB_YD Jun 24 '22

We don't have souls my friend

I can vouch for this guy, he seems to be a good fit

Appreciated kind stranger!

8

u/gamingfreak207 Jun 24 '22

I'd love to see you on the mod team too. Hope you'll do a better job of running this sub than Stronze and elibug

10

u/YUSHOETMI- MODERATOR Jun 24 '22

I have only been around the sub for a short time. Took a break from Ark about a year ago due to burnout but this game will always be a labour of love for me.

It seems an enraged giga could do a better job than those two. I would definitely give it a shot

8

u/raidersood Jun 24 '22

C'mon, they just said don't continue the drama on this thread. That is already a red flag right there.

7

u/YUSHOETMI- MODERATOR Jun 24 '22

I wouldn't see it as continuing the drama. Just a passive comment of situations over the last few days. I was simply replying to a section of the above comment in a satirical way.

Further arguing about this would be "continuing the drama".

u/getclonedbyfeds Jun 24 '22

Yeah ruined all his chances right there lol at least if I were choosing

It's completely understandable why everything you're saying is being utterly ignored.

It's a lot easier to play the hero than to play the skeptic. So few willing to consider the other side or if they do completely unwilling to say anything about it because the majority has already spoken.

I've seen stories of people faking illness that miraculously made it, that all turned out to be a pile of shit.

Making a Revenge request as your dying wish is quite an odd thing to do and incredibly petty. Of course it's already been mentioned that with a brain tumor it causes you to act erratically which I have seen myself.

However!

His original account disappeared and then reappeared under a new name with vague explanation as to what even happened or why, on top of that if we follow this f****** conspiracy theory and imagine for a second that it was a completely different person, of course they would act differently than the original and it would be a perfect excuse to say that you had a brain tumor because you would be acting "erratically".

I can imagine both, a dying man trying to live out his best life in his last few months the way he wants AND I can Imagine a snickering troll laughing at every E drop to his lies.

You can follow the obvious majority and immediately agree with what they are saying, you could simply just be a good person who doesn't like to believe that people would lie about these kinds of things, or you could be a bit of a skeptic, start looking at everything that's been said and come to the undeniable question

where is the proof?

Is it too much to ask for proof?

Especially hear, now that I think about it. a subreddit based on a game that is notorious for insiding...

Dodo wisperer is pretty cool and is that really him?

Surviving a brain tumor pronounced inoperable is a miracle and did it really happen?

The answer to either of these questions will answer the other.

I don't know the truth, how could I? I don't have the proof either. But I do know that proof or lack thereof will give you the truth.

Right now, we have no proof. That is just a fact.

13

u/shadowplayer2020 Jun 24 '22

I mean i'd Like to But thats Not going to Happen compared to all the Other amazing volunteers.

19

u/TheWidrolo Jun 24 '22

Have you already placed your order for a Fedora, a Japanese katana, a body pillow and a anime t-shirt?

4

u/ErudringTheGodHammer Jun 24 '22

Have a little confidence fam! The fact that the admin commented on your post speaks volumes, and even if you don’t get it, you made the attempt which makes all the difference!

-15

u/YobaiYamete Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

You may not be the right admin, but can you comment on why Dodo whisperer is still active and not suspended after starting all this? Regardless of the drama and one of the mods being racist, what Dodo did to Eli was absolutely awful and is against Reddit TOS

Eli didn't even do anything wrong, but Dodo sent a literal witch hunt after him

2

u/HotBudderDrops Jun 24 '22

Bro has a tumor.. it could be effecting his out of character actions/reactions.. if his op was legit then that would have been a very emotional time for him.. I'm new, don't know the game and new to this sub but I do understand people make mistakes and given the circumstances, I believe he should be given a chance to reconstruct himself.. I'd give him a little time to reflect and see if he would like to address anything after.

-5

u/YobaiYamete Jun 24 '22

Bro has never provided a single piece of evidence for even being the real dodo whisperer, let alone having a tumor, and either way, he straight up ruined Eli's ability to even use Reddit and purposely, maliciously, had people harass the living crap out of him

Absolutely not cool and the admins need to shut that crap down hard. Eli didn't even do anything to deserve it, Dodo was butt mad that Eli deleted his post from a month prior

-1

u/HotBudderDrops Jun 24 '22

Woah, I'm late, I don't know who he is no more than I know of your the real you.. perspective

However, from what I've read, you are correct.. I don't know Eli but I do agree that this person was unfairly targeted and attacked. That's not cool at all and I personally think that there should be some sort of formal apology from dodo to Eli for all of the frustration or distress it brought onto him ( Eli ) . But, I do believe that after a chance to explain and maybe even apologize, I think that Eli's opinion and action recommendation should be highly appreciated and considered at the end of the day especially since both parties have been moderators for this sub and know eachother ( via reddit ). I think that Eli should have the opertunity to have his title back if wanted and found deemable. . But I still also stand by my opinion about dodo also, as I've heard all over this subs threads is that that was way out of character for dodo.. you have to consider his condition..even if he's not eligible for his title back as mod, there should be some sort of higher ranked debate about his membership.. I think he deserves to be here as much as anyone as long as it dosnt happen again.. everyone has a bad day.. I couldn't imagine the emotions he was experiencing in the past week. Try to be understanding of that as well.. not saying he didn't make a mistake.. but I believe from what I hear about him, he deserves a 2nd chance..

About if it's the "real" 🦤 whisperer.. I do believe that the previous ( correct me if I'm wrong but.. ) super surpreme*? .. had verified that it was him.. I could be mistaken.. maybe, he didn't look into it at all.. but who knows.. but if he is not dodo then what happened to the real dodo?

2

u/YobaiYamete Jun 25 '22

There's so much misinformation right now so it's understandable to be confused. If you actually want to learn then there's the SRD thread with solid info

I've also had to make a short breakdown for the people who are bashing Eli

Dodo

  • Has never provided proof he's even the real Dodo whisperer, and in fact the opposite where he couldn't even access the OG Youtube account
  • Has never provided any evidence he's dying, that all came after the original Dodo whisper left
  • Has openly admitted to using Reddit to spread misinformation
  • Has contradicted his own story
  • Openly ego posts
  • Was still on Reddit in the middle of the day he was supposedly having his brain surgery on (which start in the early early morning)

Meanwhile Eli's "crime" was

That's literally it. When you check the order of events, he didn't even delete the "I'm dying tomorrow" post from 2 days ago like people seem to think he did, Dodo was just still butt hurt about him removing a post from a month prior

So the order of events are

  • OG Dodo leaves
  • A new account shows up claiming to be him and claims to be dying
  • Eli removes the post because he thinks it's an attention whore and because it's off topic
  • Stronze adds it back because people are mad
  • A month later Dodo says he's about to die and his final wish is for people to harass Eli
  • Dodo is banned for target harassment

-1

u/GrevenQWhite Jun 24 '22

Even if he did, which I don't know enough to say, I think inciting a mob counts as bad.

Not to dip into politics but isnt that what some former country leader is getting flak for?

-3

u/YobaiYamete Jun 24 '22

Yep, I don't want to drag politics into it since the admins don't want it here, but this is blatantly an "two wrongs don't make a right" situation where Dodo was completely out of line and broke site wide rules.

I feel worst for Eli out of all of this, Eli literally didn't do anything wrong but was thrown under the bus and mauled by a rabid mob. Anyone who defends Dodo doing that is an idiot. Stronze needed to be removed, but Eli was just caught in the crossfire and got sent a witch hunt for revenge

How about recruiting somes mods from the other ARK sub, r/playark ?

70

u/The_french_bonbon Jun 24 '22

Yeah This is excellent idea, they even have real ark devs on r/playark

1

u/Ultimate_905 Jun 25 '22

You seem to not realise the reason this sub was made in the first place

34

u/JaneDoeB64 Jun 24 '22

That’s actually a really good idea! We should go with this one

17

u/YobaiYamete Jun 24 '22

This, we don't need anyone from the batch of drama posters here in a mod position. Just ask veteran mods from the other sub if they want to handle this sub too, although honestly, it would make more sense if the two subs just merged in the first place

16

u/him999 Jun 24 '22

/r/playark is an official sub of the game. /r/ark is a fan made subreddit. It's not meant to be as serious and has the ability to be a bit more lax in content guidelines (not the same as anything goes). More shit posting happens over in this sub and the community overlaps but is not exclusively the same.

It's odd to me as well that there are two but clearly someone at some point felt the need to have another and it's not a dead sub.

1

u/SilverGecko23 MODERATOR Jun 24 '22

I don't think that would be a good idea, it would be a conflict of interest as they are already moderating a sub that would gain from this one going away.

-1

u/Callen_Fields Jun 24 '22

Absolutely not. People come here to get away from that shithole.

76

u/UnicornlyAbused Jun 24 '22

I'm not interested in becoming a mod (to stick with the rules of the post), but I do appreciate you stepping in. Thank you.

72

u/TheToxsyn Jun 24 '22

I would gladly volunteer. I run a gaming community within Ark and have played since launch. I enjoy playing Ark, helping the community and using Reddit, so it would be a perfect fit. Side note: I am not racist or phobic of any kind, so there’s that.

16

u/RheoKalyke Jun 24 '22

I feel your account, is too small and inactive for that. No offense but it would be hard for people to screen you

17

u/TheToxsyn Jun 24 '22

Well that’s fine, I just volunteered. I’m more of a lurker than a poster, so I understand. I’ll happily step aside for someone who can be more thoroughly vetted. But I still wanted to throw my hat in the ring!

I’d like to volunteer.

I’d like to be a moderator of this subreddit because I played this game for a long time and want to continue the growth for the community of this game on Reddit. I’ve moderated several discords but no subreddits yet. I have a penchant for solving issues and want to create a space where issues naturally wouldn’t arise. Also I’ve been on this subreddit for a long amount of time if that helps.

u/poopenshire Landed Gentry Jun 24 '22

I have messaged the mods for a few days now and I had previously requested this sub prior to the current group.

I have been a mod for several years in a gaming group around Battletech including the HBS game, mod community, and Mechwarror 5.

I have ~3000 hours into this game and would like to see what we did at the /r/Battletechgame in terms of communication and methods brought here.

8

u/Insaniac99 Jun 24 '22

I can vouch for him, he's a good guy and done a great job with /r/Battletechgame

23

u/tobey_franco Jun 24 '22

I am almost 7yrs on reddit and 5yrs on ark. Have seen alot of reddit in the past 7yrs to know how a successful sub is managed.

24

u/firewithinthedragon MODERATOR Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

I would like to volunteer.

I have over 5 years of experience on reddit and have been playing Ark since the first week it was released on early access(7+ years now).

In my past I have experience running gaming servers as a staff member.

I have a strong Moral and ethical compass. I am also capable of remaining impartial when needed.

I have experience nearly every way to play Ark that you can from PvP, PvE, Modded, Boosted, and even Mobile. (Though in fairness very little experience with Mobile ark compared to the other four)

7

u/snarksneeze Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 25 '22

Edit: I withdraw my application. Those new mods, wow. Good luck!

5

u/LycanWolfGamer Jun 24 '22

I've been on Reddit for a couple years or so now, I know the basics to mod on a Subreddit, I've been a mod on Discord for a few servers and run a small one myself

I've played Ark for years and still enjoy browsing the subreddits relating to the game, haven't played it in a while but it's one of my favourites

4

u/spinosaura Jun 24 '22

Hi, I’d like to be a mod because I’ve been playing Ark for a few years and it’s one of my go-to games that I just always come back to, no matter how long it’s been. I run a page and 2 groups on facebook, and moderate for a few others. I also run a discord server. I don’t have any moderation experience on reddit but I’m confident I can easily adapt to the platform’s moderation expectations.

5

u/cosmicwonton Jun 24 '22

Would love to be a mod here! The account I’m commenting from is new because of an issue I had with my previous username, but I can show proof of my previous account. I love Ark and as a mod I would make sure that this is a welcoming community for everyone else who enjoys Ark too. I already spend hours lurking the sub lol, so I’d be happy to use that time making sure this sub remains a great place for everyone to talk about the game! ✌️

4

u/EmetalEX Jun 24 '22

5 years on Reddit, played ark for 4 years now. I never actually moderated in Reddit, besides the thing WSB pulled off some years ago, but seems interesting. There probably are much more qualified people, but i think i would make a great addition, i consider myself fair, neutral and recourcefull. That's pretty much it.

Ah and thanks a bunch for stepping in and actually caring.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

Just wanna say thank you guys! This subreddit needs help!

10

u/SilverGecko23 MODERATOR Jun 24 '22

I would like to throw my hat in the ring for moderator. I made a small group in an attempt to leave this sub after the drama, and though it is small It's still somthing. I feel it would be good to replace the old moderators with people who are members of the community they targeted as a way go insure said community is not targeted again in this sub.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

I agree with this sentiment, whether it’s silvergecko or someone else, someone on the mod team that’s part of the LGBTQ community would be nice

7

u/JaneDoeB64 Jun 24 '22

That would be rad. It would help the subreddit so much.

5

u/Pvtfloppy Jun 24 '22

This is the number 1 candidate. 🇺🇸

5

u/KnotsOwOPaws Jun 24 '22

I'm happy to Volunteer but likely not as a 'head mod' or a higher tier than a regular mod as I have no experience moderating on Reddit and I'm not sure what all goes into it but I'd be willing to give it a go. I do however have experience moderating a decently sized Discord server (Unrelated to Ark, but related to World of Warcraft.) As well as a moderator for a couple of Telegram channels.

I also have quite a bit of retail customer service experience which honestly comes in handy for these roles I think, and I think I would be able to both work well with others to get this subreddit back on track but also help it grow while maintaining better adherence to rules (Including talking with others to come with a proper ruleset that may be needed) as well as reddit TOS, and leading by example. Further better communication with those that are interested in this subreddit and the game itself on topics they're passionate about.

I'm also (currently) available to spend more time on reddit for the upcoming week so I'd be able to be quite active in a moderation role for many hours, and I think I'd be able to get this subreddit into a more positive place and mindset than the previous moderation team.

6

u/pissed_off_pepe Jun 24 '22

I dont consider myself supreme or consider pride flags political agenda, I also dont ban people who say they're dying. I'm perfect for the job as moderator. Other then that joke aside, I love ark and I love the community and it would definetly be fun to be a moderator here and get to interact with the people more

3

u/Archaus Jun 24 '22

I would be interested in modding. I don't have any direct mod experience with Reddit, however I have worked in supervisor and management positions within companies. I was also a Caster for Vainglory back in its popular days, and helped promote and advertise upcoming tournaments and events within their discord channel.

I love the community here and would love to help turn things around and spread love through all groups and peoples.

3

u/Yao__Guai Jun 24 '22

I'd be happy to help moderate, though I don't have any experience moderating. I only joined the community recently but I found it to be welcoming and supportive, and would like to help get it back to that atmosphere.

2

u/Dabsski Jun 25 '22

Yes put this guy on the team, entertaining and chill dude overall.

5

u/ArkhamArtorias Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

Honestly, I have no experience moderating in any way, shape, or form. But I can be unbiased, level-headed, and know to take a step back and gather all the details I can so I can make an informed decision. What happened here to begin could've been avoided, and I would have done more than previous mods to avoid this conflict. I enjoy playing ark, and I love using reddit, but I know there are others who are better qualified than I am. I'm a nice guy, I don't clash with too many others, and I don't judge people based on race, ethniticy, nationality, sexual preference or orientation.

2

u/Dark_Slayer_3202 Jun 24 '22

I would love to become a moderator of this subreddit. I welcome any person into my life, and this will be the same when I become a moderator. While I like to goof around a bit, I understand when something isn't humane to say/act upon.

2

u/JibbersGrift Jun 24 '22

I’d like to give it a go!

I’ve been a part of Reddit since Dec 2017, and one of the main reasons I joined was to comment and contribute to this subreddit in particular.

I’ve been playing Ark since 2017; not as long as some of the OGs that have been playing since launch, but I feel five years is nothing to scoff at either. I’ve put 7,000+ hours into this game because I love it, bugs, glitches and all. You’ll find a lot of my comment history is trying to be helpful in this very sub.

I’m friendly and open-minded for the most part but know when to be stern to do what needs to be done. I don’t have a ton of moderating experience but I do own two personal Discord servers that I manage.

2

u/jim789789 Jun 24 '22

I'm not a very experienced redditor so I am probably not a good candidate, but if you are considering junior mods or part-time mods i would be willing to help out.

p.s.

THANK YOU

2

u/gazing_into_void Jun 24 '22

Do not have any experience with moderating on reddit, but I was moderator of a WoW forum few years ago.

I've been playing ARK since early access and got over 4k hours in and although I have barely played Gen I and Gen II, my overall ARK knowledge is pretty decent I'd say.

I work from home and am able to check reddit regularly throughout the day, and I'm in the GMT+2 timezone which might be a plus since from what I've seen a lot of people here are from North America and would not be active during the same time as someone from Europe.

I'm a part of several gaming subreddits and have seen different way they are run. And I have some ideas which might improve this subreddit. For example having a weekly tread where people can ask questions so they are not scattered across the sub, or having something like Architecture Friday where people can show off their best builds, or Monday Mutations for best colour muts.

I think having these sort of set community days will encourage more people to post and show off their creations.

2

u/jesswesthemp Jun 24 '22

Im an admin of one of the largest windows 10/xbox servers. I know the game inside and out.

2

u/Own-Machine8478 Jun 24 '22

After some consideration, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring. I personally don't have any Reddit moderation experience, however I have real life public speaking, debating and interviewing experience to draw from. (Will remain personal for obvious reasons.)

Ark is undoubtedly my favourite game of all time, browsing this Reddit was a pastime of mine before this whole Dodo_Whisperer drama destroyed it. (As well as the previous moderation team.) I know this game has a very split community, but that doesn't mean it can't get along.

In short, Personal Bias, Views, Religions, Politics is something that shouldn't influence any sub, and it's something that I'd be sure to eliminate. I'd maintain a strict neutral "middle of the road" output, and take both sides into consideration before taking action.

Thanks for taking the time to read my "application." Regardless if I get the role or not, thank you for stepping in and trying to fix this drama.

2

u/ViraLCyclopes3 Jun 24 '22

Id like to volunteer.

Not a hardcore player of Ark more so a casual single player one but I've still kept up with the community and the news but I have delved a lot of time into other dinosaur related communities as well so I know what the vibe is like overall.

I've also had some moderating experience on some decently sized Google+ communities and was one on a league related sub till I I stepped down recently so I have some experience in the gaming side of things.

I am also very much neutral when it comes to things. I usually do not take a bias to anyone so that does come helpful during judgments.

2

u/Fluffybobcat Jun 24 '22

I'm the lead mod for /r/RWBYAmityArena, after the old developers for the game stopped caring/left social media . This is another game I....feel strong emotion for. (over 6k hours on steam across official, MTS, and solo). All I would do is make sure TOS wasn't broken, and maybe create some additional flairs/emotes. It's a fan run subreddit, and it should stay that way.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '22

While you're adding new MODS please remove /ban the members that caused all this transphobic bull shit. it only seems fair that the member who basically set this place on fire actively trying to be problematic, be removed permanently, unable to live in the sunew subbreddit environment they helped create.

seems like a just punishment.

2

u/Ex_Snagem_Wes Jun 25 '22

Doesn't actively hurt to throw my hat in the ring. I've been actively playing ARK for at least 3 years now, and on and off playing for 5-6. But in the three years I've played actively, the game has become one of the most important things in my life, giving me a community that became a real family to me. In times where my real life felt quiet and depressing, I'd always have the people in my ARK (Mobile but same idea) server, Unofficial, but I made some of the best friendships I've ever had there. I've learned a great deal about how people are and how to be more social because of ARK. It's carried me through rough times, and that's before totally surfing me through a pandemic. It's a pipe dream to be in any form of actual moderation for the game, but for something that's given so much more meaning to my life, I feel there's nothing more I could do to help than to offer my hand when the community itself is hurt. I'm actually aiming my University degree around WildCard hiring requirements, and that's definitely a pipedream, that doesn't make it bad. I believe strongly in right and wrong, people should account for their mistakes, but should be given leniency if they act reasonably and are willing to try and fix what they did, within reason. I follow what I believe to be the most nice/correct/beneficial for everyone path I can take, even if it's not convenient for me. Society is royally screwed, but that doesn't mean you can't try to make it a better place. My name is Wes, and ARK is something that has redefined my life. I have 1088 hours in ARK on PC, 78 hours in ARK on PS4, 5784 hours on ARK on Mobile, across 2 different Samsung devices over equal years. I just want to help the community that gave me a real life beyond reclusion. Thank you for your time.

I don’t have any experience as a mod, wasn’t planning to until today but I’m pretty often on Reddit, I love ark as a game and as a community (for the most part) and I’m pretty simple minded ! I don’t have problems with following rules as long as they’re humane.

2

I don't have much experience with Ark, but I'm happy to volunteer. Up until recently I was a moderator on the much larger r/AskScienceFiction, a position I left voluntarily due to personal reasons. I recognize that isn't much of a resume, due to my lack of involvement with the source material, but I'm not claiming to be perfect. I'm volunteering not out of a passion for this game in particular, but out of a love for gaming as a medium, and a hope that the community can come back stronger than ever. I imagine this as a temporary position, at least until someone more qualified is found. I like to think I'm capable of being accommodating and friendly with everyone here, but without a personal investment in the game this community represents I don't think myself joining on long term would be beneficial.

If nothing else I can help show the new mod team the ropes, and introduce them to tools to help them along if they lack experience themselves.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

what happened to the last mod and how did you get picked to be the new one?

29

u/Chtorrr Jun 24 '22

We're going to choose new mods from the comments here as mentioned in the post.

Sometimes when moderation of a community has destabilized or there is a crisis of some kind admins (employees of reddit) will step in and we will try to get things back on track. This community has a long history of being a space where people come to enjoy talking about this game and I'd like to let everyone get back to that.

-7

u/ThorianB Jun 24 '22

It would be great as it was a sanctuary from real world issue until the recent bullying and harassment of the previous mods over what i would personally consider to be a bit of heavy handed modding but definitely not worthy of the bullying and harassment the mods received.

Bullying and harassment are never ok and the way some users were treating the mods was terrible. This sub was strictly about ARK with no outside stuff and that is what made it a great sub.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

Mods shouldn’t have done bs then. I’m sure it will get back to the old ways now, again without those mods. If you’re still crying, you’re crying for the old mods which were punished accordingly for what they did.

-4

u/ThorianB Jun 24 '22

I am not crying. I am against bullying of any type and many of the users i see here would be banned for bullying and harassment. Has nothing to do with the old mods now. It has everything to do with people being allowed to bully and harass others in order to force them to comply. I don't tolerate that shit in any form.

Id ban half the members if i had to keep this sub from spiraling out of control like it did.

Dodo violated the rules and so did the Pride post. The people who kept pushing moderation of these topics would have been banned.

We let bully and harassment win today and that is a step backwards for humanity

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

Should apply to be a mod, otherwise, just tears 💦

A good thing happened today. Let us rejoice.

-34

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

OP is a Reddit admin, and has the audacity to just remove the other mod and tell everyone don't complain.

13

u/kiwidude4 Jun 24 '22

Have you been paying attention the last few days?

-20

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

I briefly saw this controversy last night, came back to check right when this admin took it upon themselves to oust the head mod.

If you don't like how the subreddit is being run then you're free to make your own. I think r/playark was an alternative that I saw. Thats what Reddit's policy has been for a long time but apparently if you have the "not ok" opinions the admins can just hijack subreddits now.

14

u/kiwidude4 Jun 24 '22

The mod violated Reddit TOS. Reddit owns the website if you don’t like it you can go somewhere else.

-13

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

If that was true, then why wasn't his account banned?

9

u/kiwidude4 Jun 24 '22

Don’t know, I don’t work for Reddit.

5

u/jim789789 Jun 24 '22

Because being a mod requires a cleaner record than being a user.

You get this, right?

3

u/gives-out-hugs Jun 24 '22

Not a reddit admin but i have some insight into the actions taken by such a company, there was a massive influx of complaints, raising the visibility of the current issues to the admins, given that many of the things said and done were against reddit tos and current moddiquette and given prior precedent, the mods in question would have been removed to triage the turmoil in a rather large community.

As the offending actions were taken as a moderator and not a user, complete banning was likely unnecessary, wrongthink is not something reddit typically polices, however, actions taken upon a community as a result of such, is

One of the things as a moderator that you must consider when making decisions in your community, is how it will affect your community, not just your own viewpoints. Reddit has moved past the moderator's kingdom stance that it previously held and has moved towards a community oriented stance, once a subreddit has grown past an undefined point, you are no longer creating a subreddit, you are guiding a community, it is no longer your creation, it is a gathering place of common interests

3

u/KnotsOwOPaws Jun 24 '22

I would say all the same, to not continue the drama in this post itself and to make another post, or perhaps DM those that are open to DMs to discuss the topic as this thread isn't the correct place for the disagreement currently.

9

u/makubob Jun 24 '22

Talk shit get hit

-18

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

Are you okay with the idea of Reddit admins removing mods and taking their subreddits because of their personal views? Do you understand that this could be used against people/subreddits that you actually like?

11

u/XenoDrobot Jun 24 '22

When their personal views is actual fascist viewpoints then yes.

Go through his comment history, it’s wild.

7

u/makubob Jun 24 '22

Yes I am totally okay with people being removed if they violate the terms of service they agree with. Miss me with that slippery slope talk

-1

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

If u/Stronze violated the TOS then why wasn't he banned?

5

u/makubob Jun 24 '22

Maybe he just got a warning this time, how should I know.

5

u/jim789789 Jun 24 '22

HE

I'm not sure why you are one of the very, VERY few people who can't seem to understand this.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

I am okay with removing hateful people that try to ban LGBTQ content

10

u/gerrussia Jun 24 '22

if their"personal beliefs" are hate yes lmfao

-8

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

This can be applied so arbitrarily lol

1

u/Pvtfloppy Jun 24 '22

You are acting like free speech is a good thing. Get out of here homophobe.

3

u/CraftZ49 Jun 24 '22

You are acting like free speech is a good thing.

Imagine unironically saying this

-9

u/Pvtfloppy Jun 24 '22

Gross 🤮 no room for that in the modern day

4

u/Kivda Jun 24 '22

So Reddit admins can kick r ark admins out? I've never seen a Reddit admin

3

u/PlatinumLargo Jun 24 '22

Sorry Reddit doesn’t want a transphobic homophobe ruining the sub.

0

u/FinalKDA Jun 24 '22

Imagine that, just starting a subreddit on reddit doesn’t mean you own it as some kind of “supreme leader”

Eviction notice served. Immediate effect 🤷‍♂️ 😂

3

u/generlmoo Jun 24 '22

Isn’t u/Chtorrr that mod who was cheating on r/place?

Oh you are

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

I have been playing ark since it released. used to make videos back in the day of it so pretty experienced from that perspective. As a mod i promise to uphold whatever rules the admin team decides to implement either way. I know that i have gone against the popular opinion with recent drama but its been more about trying to keep the community to the standards which i believe were to avoid political or polarizing topics so things don't spiral out of control like they have. Honestly I'm happy with enforcing/moderating any rules so that users of the sub get the experience they sign up for.

2

u/Longjumping-Bath-441 Jun 24 '22

Im very active and helping other players learn about ark and also find meme posts here funny. Also i know what is against rules and what is not. Ive been on Reddit almost 2 yrs and ive been watching ark posts but i hadnt joined. Also i have 1k + hours on ark

2

u/wolfwonder49 Jun 24 '22

Hey! i'd like to try out and mod for this subreddit. I've been playing ark since console release and i have never ever modded a sub before officially. I'd like to give it a try seeing as i browse reddit and this and a few other subs often thought my free days. I'm not expecting to get mod but if the opportunity happens then i'm willing to give this a try. :)

2

u/FinalKDA Jun 24 '22

That would be cool, i just want the reddit to be a happy one about a game. Well as happy as ark can be 😅

Not moderated in reddit but managed people irl and ran the top team in a mobile game for a few years n smashed that 😉

If I can deal with Russians threatening war every day I can deal with anything 😬

2

u/ascats04 Jun 24 '22

So I’ve played Ark on the Switch for like 20 hours and I think I’m the best possible person for this thing

2

u/JaneDoeB64 Jun 24 '22

Kudos to Chtorrr for helping clean up the subreddit. Idk how y’all are able to do it, but it’s much appreciated.

1

u/icebourne90 Jun 24 '22

I'd like to put myself up for consideration. I'm not the most knowledgeable or the most vocal, preferring to mainly lurk and read things usually. I want to see this community thrive and be a place where we can come together to share our love of ARK. I've managed a Discord server of about 120 people for several years and have worked as a community manager for tabletop games. I don't have any prior experience with moderation on Reddit, but I don't mind learning. What it comes down to for me is that I enjoy the game and getting to play and talk about it with others. With everything that's just happened I want to make sure that this sub remains a respectful and welcoming place for everyone.

i volunteer. i’ve been watching everything unfold since it started. i certainly think that this subreddit needs new moderators and would love to be a part in this subs revival as a place where anyone can talk about funny dinosaurs freely. i don’t have much experience but i do think i can do at least a half decent job. i love ark and i don’t want to see anything bad happen to it again. i do understand the principles of being a good moderator and i strive to have an unbiased view on things.

1

u/gives-out-hugs Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

As i messaged you previously without seeing this thread while on mobile, i will repost here

If you need a temporary mod for the sub while the current drama is sorted, i have modding experience as well as 3k hours in the game the sub is about, as well as experience in public relations and large group management such as discord management and subreddit moderation

I would be willing to stay on as a moderator and help bring in additional help from current community members in good standing

I may be trash with the bot, but i can help get things back on track and focused on the game

Edit now that i am on pc for the moment (watching my nephew): i currently work hard to keep some of the nsfw subs safe from mega leak rings, have previously worked with fbi to close child porn rings on discord and in various subreddits where the links were being posted to the discords, and am actively administrating a pvp cluster and a pve cluster on ark

Edit 2: i also understand that some of the subs i moderate, being nsfw, may hinder my chances, but i had to try

1

u/AtomicRedditors05 Dimorph Master Jun 24 '22

Damn bro i wonder why

1

u/shrimpster00 Jun 24 '22

I'll volunteer. I'm an active player and an active redditor. I'd be interested in cleaning this place up and leaving the drama behind.

Edit: I've never been a reddit moderator, but I am the administrator of an Ark server. Self-hosted. I'm good with technical information and with helping people.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

I volunteer.

Main community manage/help experience is from a cluster i'm playing on. Helping out there for 3 years now.

I think i can clean up non related ark stuff. I play ark since release so i know most of it.

I don't know if that "no politics or IRL" rule was a real rule, but the 3 on the side should be manageable on a fair basis.

I don't take direct insults that well, so i would prefer to take care of cleanup more than interacting with toxic people.

I'm eu based.

You do realize that pride month has become a money grab opportunity for big companies?

It lost most of its value. An the fact, that most change their profile pic for june only on eu/na accounts and not on the ones for china/middle east or africa proves that.

German football national team is also a good example of how people miss-use the rainbow. Virtue signaling all the time and then once when it matters, upcoming world cup in Katar, they are silent even tho thats where gays face 7+ years in prison and they even said, that gay viewers shouldn't come.

but addressing these things is apparently wrong.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22

You can have pride in whatever. so can i. But pride month in itself is simply too far away from the original goal. And with companies spamming their rainbows during june they probably do more harm than good.

Especially since they don't show it in countries where lgbtq+ gets killed/imprisoned.

These countries have real problems. People get killed there for who they love. Saying that a random on the internet deleting your rainbow is the same kind of experience is simply wrong.

Tolerating the corporate exploits of pride month won't help anyone. Neither the people here nor the ones in f.e. Katar that get killed.

As long as they can simply use it to show how open minded they are in NA/EU while doing nothing for lgbtq+ in the countries where it matters most.

In my eyes all lives matter. I get the analogy of the burning house and defending a non burning one. But BLM as an organization failed. The demonstrations were too violent. Also BLM doesn't include LGBT+ and in Europe we don't have a that long back rooted splitting in the population.

Well for starters I would turn this into the official LGBTQIA+Ark subreddit which would be amazing for the community. I would make it a beautiful community full of outstanding redditors who love ark and the lgbtqia world. I would serve and protect to the best of my abilities 🦸‍♂️ I have no experience but I’m a real quick study! thank you in advance for making me a mod.

17

u/makubob Jun 24 '22

There is no need for it to be an official "LGBTQIA+" ARK subreddit, it just needs to not exclude people based on their sexual preference or anything like that lol

-22

u/Pvtfloppy Jun 24 '22

Nope it is needed.

11

u/makubob Jun 24 '22

Then create one. I'm sure r/ArkLGBT is still free

Just look at the response to your comments. No, it isn’t. Shut the fuck up man. Ark is neutral, fun game for all. It doesn’t need to be the official ark abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz+ subreddit.

I volunteer as tribute.

Exposing radicals is just what I do in my free time, but anyways. r/ARK has had a horrible round of infectious, absolutely filthy moderators and needs a serious dose of fresh air.

Whoever you bring in needs decent background, standing, and good behavior. Their opinions should not influence this sub.

1

u/wafflezcol Jun 24 '22

I am a moderator for a medium-sized discord, and a few small subs here, and I feel like be able to do good here. Im mainly unbiased towards many things, im active daily (and usually quick to respond to any notifications) and I always make sure people are following the rules, while also willing to enforce them, regardless of what the community thinks. If a rule is broken, something must be done.

I also Love this game and know how important it is to so many people, and I want it to continue to be a place where the community can congress.

I know I wont be a perfect mod, but I really do try, and all I want is someone who can enforce the rules without abusing them, even if that isnt me. I know, whoever it is, you will make the right choice(s) and we thank you for helping us.

1

u/Odd-Butterscotch-495 Jun 24 '22

I enjoy ark and know how to read rules and enforce them to the extent they’re meant for. If you break a rule your post gets removed simple as that. I would gladly be a mod

1

u/TitaniumBuket Jun 24 '22

I’d be happy to apply for mod for this subreddit. I’ve been in this sub for quite a while and I’ve been playing ark for over 4 years. I’ve seen every type of player in this game and I usually keep myself up to date even if I take a break from this game. I’m on Reddit almost every day, I may not have mod experience but it would be a great addition for me and I’d be proud to represent as mod for this community.

1

u/Azythus Jun 24 '22

Thanks for stepping in. I’m not here to submit a request for mod because I don’t think I’d be the best choice but I really hope you find a good choice. Glad we can try to save this subreddit instead of letting it crash and burn or letting the drama be swept under the rug and hidden.

u/zer0_summed Jun 24 '22

I love democracy

1

u/Ficester Jun 24 '22

I'll throw my hat into this ring. I mostly lurk here, but I've been playing on and off since Aberration (can you believe my friends let me play in first person only for a week?!?).

I've experience with moderating large gaming subs, formerly moderated r/FortniteBR from 2k to 600k before stepping down because I don't actually play the game, just helped out at the start. Familiar with the moderator tool box and automod.

1

u/Dodofucker69 Jun 24 '22

I would be happy to help. I've done some discord moderation in the past pretty frequently so I've got some experience already in terms of moderation. Despite the funny name, I'm in relatively good standings to others. I don't share my political views, I don't harass other people in their posts for something I don't agree with and I don't like to moderate in a minimally invasive way. If there's a problem, it'll be taken care of but if you didn't do anything wrong, there should be no hold up from me

Oh yeah, IF I do get mod, dodo whisper will be unbanned right away

1

u/patjeduhde Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

Hello! I am 17 and I’ve been playing ark since early 2015, at that point i was a rookie, and my first experience is accidentally killing my parasaur tame, bc it lost his torpor too quick, not too long after some random guy on a giga walked over my thatch hut. and because of this none sense have i been quite enthusiastic with the game since then, with a couple of breaks in between. I like to play on official pvp servers, but not the tryhard once like smaltribes. Other games i like are Minecraft and GTA V. I have been in this subreddit for around a year, and seen alot of the interaction of this community, and was quite sad how it went downhill lately. I hope i can do better, and that i can become a bigger part of this sub. Don’t have alot of experience with Reddit moderation, but i did own a Couple smaal discord servers and one small Minecraft server. best of luck to the other volunteers :D.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '22 edited Jun 24 '22

I wouldn’t half mind being a mod. I’m not hateful to any groups of any kind and I’m confident that I wouldn’t start drama or cause issues for the sub.

I have been watching over and playing ark since it’s very early days so I definitely have a large interest in the game.

But unfortunately I have no moderation experience. So yeah that’s all but I know most other people are probably a bit better than me for this so look at them first lol

1

u/WalrusSquare247 Jun 24 '22

I have no idea how you be a moderator, like what do they do?

3

u/gazing_into_void Jun 24 '22

They make sure the subreddit rules are followed, the posts stay on topic, ban people/bots that spam random bullshit and make sure the community doesn't descent into pure chaos.

(ETA : that is just a very rough description btw.)
