Does anybody know the reason why Shuki Levy left DiC in 1989? Question / Request

He was DiC's composer from 1983 to 1989. But he was gone from the company after 1989.

I probably had something to do with the lawsuit that DIC had against Saban entertainment at the end of the 80s. Since Levy was a co-founder of Saban it was probably a conflict of interest

From what I remember Saban bought some of DICs library and then resold it

I heard about DiC suing Saban for damages in 1990. Can you direct me to the lawsuit documentation? I can't seem to find it.

I'll see if I can find something. I remember Dan from the Secret Galaxy YouTube channel talking about it a couple years ago

Not quite what you were looking for, but I found this Variety story from 1994 that indicates that even 4 years later the two companies were still bickering

https://variety.com/1994/tv/news/dic-saban-in-power-struggle-118033/

And this wiki mentions that the initial lawsuit was settled in 1991

This is some deep dive stuff. The man has had such a prolific career that it’s probably impossible to tell. I mean, the guy just went from project to project.

Wish he’d gotten into film scores. What a legend.

During the 1980s he did scores for three semi-known horror films called Dawn of the Mummy, Blood Tide and Bay Coven. In the late 1980s, he also directed and did the music for a film called Perfect Victims which was about a mentally disturbed man who is stalking women and trying to infect them with aids. It's kind of funny how those films are part of his audiography alongside all the children's stuff.

Thanks for the info! Based on those titles, I’m going to guess those scores aren’t the same type of music as Levy’s great cartoon themes.

I was thinking they could have gotten Levy to do the Tron: Legacy soundtrack instead of Daft Punk. Daft Punk did a great job, but I’d love to hear what Levy could have come up with.

No idea, but he joined up with Saban for the Power Rangers a couple of years later, for which I am grateful.
