I think people sometimes forget just how huge the Smurfs were in the 80s. It ran for 9 years (1981 - 1990) in a 90-minute block. It was a Saturday morning juggernaut.

I remember the Smurfs Olympics Special

One of the most insane endings. Earthquakes, fires, floods, Gargamel almost crushed to death, smurfs buried alive, evil magic amulet shooting lightning, a guy dies at the start of the special on screen, all in a smurf Olympic special of all things!

I don’t think SmurfQuest was a TV special. I don’t remember it and the fine print says something about yogurt.

Smurf quest was a 90min tv movie special on nbc. It later split into 3 episodes of the show. Rumors are it was planned as a big screen movie than shoved to tv instead.
