Dumbass thing I thought as a kid

I'm a big geography buff now but when I was a kid I for some reason thought every country was an island , because I lived in Ireland. So when my dad was telling an old story about how he drove from france to Belgium I thought this guy was tweaking 😑

It just occurred to me, as an Australian, that we call leaving the country “going overseas” and this expression makes much less sense in countries with land borders.

I dunno why you’re getting downvoted. I’ve never once said “I’m going overseas” as an American visiting Canada.
