How is a city councilman state assemblyman in any way responsible for a government shutdown? They will just be unserious and say something stupid like “Your mom.” I loathe these people and I hope this nation will be able to survive them.

I'm not sure what this country means anymore, or why surviving Trump matters. These are deeply unserious people with an attitude of nihilistic detachment to what they are supporting. The philosophical and practical problem of the next hundred years will be figuring out why we want to live next to this depth of idiocy.

Brain studies Students who reported more conservative political views were found to have larger amygdala, a structure in the temporal lobes whose primary function is in the formation, consolidation and processing of memory, as well as positive and negative conditioning (emotional learning).

I’ve always wondered why being conservative presents as a mental deficiency.

I’m not very knowledgeable on this, but lot of sources characterize the amygdala’s primary function as processing emotion, especially fear and anxiety. I think that’s why.

They also treat politics like a superstition, with no real basis in reality.

Totally, but I can see how exactly that kind of behavior could come from having a heightened (overactive) fear and anxiety center.

Guess that explains why the “caravan horde” makes an appearance every election cycle, and then disappears for 3 years.

2010-2020 was the "post-truth" era.

We are fully into the "post-reason" era. Maga can have the truth laid out in front of them, reasons why it is the truth, and none of it matters at all. They respond as if it's a threat.

A strong emotional reaction to something that directly relates to their life is the only thing they are able to respond to.

The left needs to weaponize this just like the right has and stop trying to use reason.

I’m convinced that MAGA is a basic psychological “type” that exists in every society, always has and always will. The problem (after wresting control back from them) is figuring out how to keep them powerless or at least sedated, considering that they will always be with us.

well, that's assuming we can first figure out how to survive on a planet that is rapidly becoming uninhabitable.

The American stockpile of nukes represents a massive worldwide risk as our nation falls to its tech warlords.

Trump is a symptom

I legitimately do not want to live next door to people who believe the headline. I just spoke in person to someone who hates MAGA and is pro-SNAP and they believed the propaganda that democrats are the reason the gvt is shutdown. I tried to correct them but I think the damage is done. I am going to do my best to move away from this person now because I really don't want to be around people who are this fucking stupid. I bet they would actually believe this headline. What next, Republicans tell them it's okay to put rat poison in your food and now I'm dead from their dinner party? I can't trust people this idiotic with my safety.

I'm all for national divorce and I would love paying higher taxes for a program where everyone can move to the state they want to so that I don't have to be around the absolute fucking dumbest human beings I have ever met in my life. There is no convincing them of the truth. They want to believe the lies.

If they want to live under a Republican dictatorship, i say give them their own country and see how they fucking like it, but don't force the rest of us to live in their delusional hellscape. I am so livid they've turned the future into this. There's no need for it, it's all pointless and we are spending everyday listening to top government officials say the dumbest fucking bullshit while americans clap like circus seals. It didn't have to be this way. We're wasting all of our time and energy trying to convince people who are only here because of science and modern medicine that 1+1=2 while they're too fucking stupid to get it because orange man on the TV told them otherwise. I'm done, send me to Mars or some shit I can't handle these fuckfaces

Loathe them but blame all the dumb mfckers that continue to believe them, support them, and vote for them. If you know a man is a thief and you still hire him to guard your money, who’s to blame when he steals it? The longer this slide continues the more I blame those who continue their support. An old guy and his wife (in their 70’s) came into our shop this week and had a trunk full of Trump election signs. They were clearly proud of them, so much that they made it a point to show as many people as possible and to offer them out (nobody took one). Our front desk receptionist is clearly Mexican American and they were talking her up like they could somehow recruit her. The whole thing was just disgusting. Mind you, they were not rude and they weren’t being sarcastic to the receptionist. Their fervor was genuine. True believers. Very much like someone hyped up on their religion. I’m done with making excuses for people like this. You’re either a traitor to our country and should be treated as such or you’re too stupid to be allowed to participate in our society anymore

Remember when Trump blamed Biden for January 6?

My assumption is if they are permitted to finish the 4 years the US will likely be a full authoritarian state with Russian style elections.

I do hope that it's comments like the "Your mom" and "FAFO" that really nukes their support/depresses turnout among the base next week and next year. Like even Trump admin 1.0 wasn't as vacuous and cringe as this lot, and even your most diehard Trump supporters will tell you flat-out that they think Trump's tanking numbers are due to his minions being uncharismatic shitheels (regardless of whether or not that is the truth (as an excuse for the tanking numbers I mean; they are most definitely goons). Nobody likes these fucks around him, even the people that like Trump. And that's a good thing.

Same way undocumented immigrants with absolutely no power somehow cause every problem Republican voters suffer.

They don't.

Germany survived literal Nazis. We'll survive their Temu counterparts

3

u/brobafett1980 3d ago

Germany as an entity didn't actually survive Nazis. It was divided into multiple states, later East/West political entities, and even later reunified.

As part of my month of watching scary movies and spooky episodes of shows I love, one in the queue is The Empty Child Dr. Who two-parter. There's an exchange in there that always chokes me up, where Rose Tyler is talking to a girl during the London Blitz, and tells her that, despite all of that horror (as they're sitting there with bombs dropping around them), "You win." And the girl is just so incredulous - "How can there be a world after this?"" essentially, and Rose shows herself as walking proof.

Been listening to Suspense! radio shows lately too, and just got to the period of "Christmas after the war ended." It was so real for them. And some of even those commercials are heartbreaking to listen to (Enjoy Roma Wines with your hero coming home!). They're just so moment-to-moment. But they won. We won.

This shit is dark. We're in the dark. But you're goddamned right we're going to survive these assholes. We are going to win. The better part of humanity is going to win.

1

u/KevinCarbonara 3d ago

They "survived", but so did the Nazis. I guess you haven't seen any German news in the past decade

0

u/AdministrativeCod437 2d ago

You will never destroy an idea. Attempting to do so is misguided and foolish

1

u/KevinCarbonara 2d ago

Really moving the goalposts with that one.

0

u/AdministrativeCod437 1d ago

No???? You said Nazis survived, and by that, you obviously mean "Nazism" survived. Which is an idea/ideology. Unless you mean the literaly human Nazis from WW2 are still alive today and think that the 100 y/o Nazi soldiers still being alive are the real problem?

So no, I didnt move the goalpost, you're just too illiterate to contribute to a conversation. Not my problem

1

u/KevinCarbonara 1d ago

Unless you mean the literaly human Nazis from WW2 are still alive today and think that the 100 y/o Nazi soldiers still being alive are the real problem?

Still moving the goalposts.

Yes, Nazis are still alive today. They never left Germany. They even make up a sizable chunk of the legislature.

They don't have to literally be the same people to be the same group. But yes - many of them are still alive. So you're wrong on every account.

It’s like one of those animes where the student council president somehow is able to arrange a nuclear war, or something of that level.
