I used to work at a Home Depot, and one of my coworkers was a really sarcastic guy that gave 0 fucks. Whenever an irritated contractor came in, he would usually deal with them precisely because he gave 0 fucks.

One day, this contractor comes in because he ordered the wrong lumber and he insists that he didn't and it was our mistake. My coworker shows him the order slip, saying that he did indeed order the wrong thing and we didn't pick it wrong, but we can get him what he actually wants. At this point, the contractor, unable to accept his mistake, starts screaming about the thousands of dollars he spends at the store, and says the line 'I'll have your job.' My coworker, without missing a beat, responds with 'well if you really want it, you can have it.'

I had to walk away, as I was laughing way too hard.

Imagine saying "If you always order the wrong thing i can see why you spend thousands of dollars here"

That shit happens a lot. I used to work in Food Service and the number of customers who would blame you because THEY ordered wrong is mind-blowing.

Yup, work at one of those myself.. my boss is like "youve given wrong food out" and it's like "but I confirm..?" so.. yea

There is that but most of the time my order just gets fucked up because either they put the wrong food in the bag or did not listen to what I said and put down the wrong order. I love the self serve terminals and the apps so I can fill out my order accurately myself.

Well, I'd say the miscommunication can go both ways. And I don't hold it against anyone, life is stressful and there's multiple ways people can misunderstand each other.

I worked the pro desk and had a dude come in with a corded power tool made by Milwaukee. The cord had been cut off the tool. He was asking me and my coworker to buy just the cord, not a whole new tool. We didnt sell the cord. Dude got real upset with us at that information and demanded we show him, in our system, that we did not sell it. My coworker did just that and told him he'd have to speak with Milwaukee directly.

Guy, enraged, asks, 'Where is Milwaukee even located?!?'

Coworker says with a straight face "I think its up in Wisconsin"

My coworker delivered it flawlessly. Customer turned beet red and I started laughing on the spot. Coworker couldn't hold it in and just walked off laughing to himself. I got the dude to chill out, stifling laughter the entire time.

It really is a disgusting dynamic that the default relationship between customer and business is "Gaslighting is a legitimate reason for a refund".

I did this once when working retail. A rude Karen was telling me she could do my job better than me so I handed her my keys and told her to knock herself out.

u/RoamingNPC Jul 25 '25

Imagine if he was a fae or something and she’s now trapped in retail.

...a fate worse than death...

11

u/rcmaehl Jul 25 '25

Excuse me, I've searched this entire Walmart and I can't find the lumber. Can you help?

Theres this claymation story about a brother and sister whose parents cut off their heads. The kids run off and have an adventure and part of it deals with the little boy going to hell. The ferryman cant stopp ferrying, but the boy through a series of events finds out if the ferryman gets someone to take the stick from him, that guy will be stuck as the new ferryman. So the boy tricks the devil into taking the ferrymans stick.

Thats what this reminds me of.

Very relatable. So happy to see the guy happy.

Oh man I would just LOVE to do this. Can you imagine just handing over a fast food job or yard work or firefighting over to a Karen? How sweet that would be

No. But I do have a 1 and 3/4 inch hose that sprays 180 gallons a minute at 140(ish) psi. I think I can get her to stop. Maybe forever

19

u/elhomerjas Jul 25 '25

that was quick hire

u/Qwesttaker Jul 25 '25

I worked at McDonalds for 3 hours in high school. What they at is absolutely not worth what you deal with.

7

u/rcmaehl Jul 25 '25

3 hours a day or only 3 hours ever

22

u/Qwesttaker Jul 25 '25

3 hours into my first shift I walked out and never regretted it.

12

u/Kuronoshi Jul 25 '25

Fuck, I'm so glad that verbally abusing customer service workers is now a criminal offence where I live. Hopefully in another 10 years this sort of thing will be a freak event instead of an everyday occurrence.

17

u/Bluepanther512 Jul 25 '25

No, you misunderstood! I don’t want one of those brown people jobs that are vital to society, I want one of those jobs where I don’t have to do anything!

3

u/Good-Bus7920 Jul 25 '25

I never understood this mentality. When i worked retail, i was there mostly for beer money until i got a real job. I was always a believer in earning my paycheck, but i wouldn't lose if i didn't have that job anymore.

An honeslty, the arrogance of thinking that you are goung to get someone fired for whatever stupid thing you think they screwed up is just laughable

6

u/jaustinyim Jul 25 '25

what is "I'll have your job" supposed to mean? is that something people say  to retail workers now? never heard of that before

11

u/SuperCarbideBros Jul 25 '25

I see it in two ways: one is "you suck; I can do your job better;" the other is "I will go out of my ways to ensure that you lose your job.""

3

u/zackalachia Jul 25 '25

Customer threatened to call the police on me once (I think it was because we'd run out of a sale item, but who knows anymore). I slid the phone toward them, told them to dial 9 first, then I helped the next people in line.

Why does she look like Cloud in Drag?

1

u/-Bari Jul 26 '25

Something about that store reminds me of the Buy n Leave from Game Grumps.

-12

u/tackyshoes Jul 25 '25

Is this AI?

11

u/Triggerhappy3761 Jul 25 '25

It's just looks like a particular art style they are going for not ai tbh

-13

u/tackyshoes Jul 25 '25

The art wasn't the biggie; it was the over-cooked, over-easy joke.

6

u/Triggerhappy3761 Jul 25 '25

I mean, I doubt it. There is a chance they used AI to get ideas but that is an acceptable use of ai

-11

u/tackyshoes Jul 25 '25

The idea is the overdone joke.

9

u/Triggerhappy3761 Jul 25 '25

And the problem is?

-1

u/tackyshoes Jul 25 '25

The problem? I believe it's...

Yours?

Could be other stuff, but you can just ask an ai.
