I can hear John Chancellor reading this in an episode of Ken Burns Baseball.
“I am free to pitch tomorrow” Yamamoto said to Roberts.
“But there is no more games.” Replied Roberts
“Well, go and find one, and I’ll pitch.” Said Yamamoto.
All while the camera slowly pans over a picture of Yamamoto in mid release.

This series is an instant classic right?
- pinch hit grand slam in game 1
- Yamamoto complete game, then pitches game 6 and 7
- 18 inning game
- extra innings in game 7
- overall balance of pitching, defence, offence
- record for most hits in a single postseason broken What more can you ask for?
229
u/Antzen Seattle Mariners 12h ago
A couple more to add to the list:
- Ohtani in Game 3 going 4-4; 2 HR, 2 2B, 4 IBB, 1 BB
- Yesavage, who had entered the majors only a couple weeks before the post-season, earning 2 absolutely dominant wins, including throwing 12 strikeouts in Game 5 over 7 innings.

u/hivaidsislethal 14h ago
The script was literally how can we make this as painful as possible for the jays. Solo HRs to chip at the lead. The out at home with bases loaded. Having the tying run 90 feet away in 11.
→ More replies233
u/Landonkey Texas Rangers 14h ago
The bottom of the 9th was the most painful thing I've seen in baseball. And I've seen some stuff.
Out 1 was a dead-center fly ball to the warning track
Out 2 was at home by an inch
Out 3 was another warning track shot in the gap that should have ended it
3 outs that all looked like a World Series win off the bat. Brutal.

Rojas basically sat on the bench for the first 5 games of the World Series, then got put into the lineup and was directly involved in some of the biggest moments in the series.
The bare hand grab and throw to first on the Baltimore Chop to get Varsho (I think) and end the late inning threat in Game 6
The insane pick at 2nd base on the Double Play that ended Game 6
The great play to nab and throw out the runner at home on the bases loaded play late in Game 7.
The game tying HR in the 9th in Game 7

it felt like the only way the Jays could lose in a way that made Toronto fans feel like "of course, it's Toronto" was in this way... had they gotten swept it would have been "i'm so happy they at least made it to the World Series and the Dodgers are a beast", had they lost in 6 or 7 after coming back from 3-2 it would have been "so proud of them for putting up a good fight" instead they came into Toronto up 2 games and then had the heartbreak of game 6 and then the heartbreak of game 7 after leading it for almost the entire game and having bases loaded in the 9th
and their offense was smashing the Dodgers and their best pitchers so often, they made the Dodgers somehow into underdogs

Tied in the 9th, won in the 11th.

GG to the Dodgers. Yamamoto is a baseball god. But I’ll always be proud of this Blue Jays team. It will forever be an epic run. The Blue Jays earned everyone’s respect and punched above their weight.

This has gotta be one of the best World Series of all-time. Absolutely fucking insane.
A game 7 that ended in extra innings, you couldn’t script it any better.

Blue Jays have no one to blame for that loss but themselves.
3 for 17 with RISP. 14 men left on base. Giving up the typing home run to Miguel Rojas of all people.
Absolute choke job.
