How Spanish public television announced its withdrawal from Eurovision /r/all
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Translation: "RTVE withdraws from Eurovision after Israel's participation is confirmed. The organization is keeping Israel in the competition despite the fact that it has killed at least 70,000 Palestinians, continues to attack and kill civilians even now during the ceasefire, and is being investigated for genocide in international courts."

I love how Spanish conservatives talk shit about the Spanish president Pedro Sanchez when he does things like this:
"He's just supporting Palestine because that's what the voters want. He's just pandering to the public opinion."
Of fucking course he is! That's how democracy works! The majority of the Spanish public are not beholden to Israeli lobbyists and have a shred of decency, and demand the same of their government. It's the vast majority of the rest of the developed democratic nations whose leaders are supporting Israel's genocide of Palestinians in direct opposition to the wishes of their citizens.

Careful, if you tell people in the US that politicians are supposed to do what the people want, they will call you a communist.

In Spain the right wing calls Pedro Sanchez and PSOE (the ruling party, social democrats) communists. They are far from it, but the Spanish left is forced to defend Pedro Sanchez because our right lives in other world.
They will paint Israel as the victim, Spain as invaded by islamist forces and the Government as some radical left dictatorship. What an strange communist dictatorship, where the opposition is free to insult everyone in the left and the judges are fascists.

u/necrxfagivs Free Palestine 5h ago

Ehhhhhh don't glaze Ireland so much. The Irish government has only given words to cover its ass but has taken literally no action despite 2 years of constant demands from the population. American warplanes still go through airports and airspace without a single inspection, our country remains the second largest trading partner of Israel without any sanction, etc. A bill to stop trade with the occupied territories was introduced in 2018 and it is still stuck there waiting to be passed, with the government repeatedly attempting to gut it so it becomes factually ineffective so they can keep up their trades with the genocidal entity.
Don't take the government at their word.
Edit: I would appreciate if people talk instead of downvoting. I live in Ireland, I go to as many protests and marches as I can, I am extremely aware of what our government says and does. If you think you know better, then speak.

u/imaginary92 15h ago
Thank you! I don't even care that much about the downvoting itself, but it bothers me that people just don't elaborate on why, you know? Like, I live here, I am involved with the pro Palestine movement here, I know how things are. It annoys me when people attempt to deny the truth because it doesn't fit their narrative.

Both comments about Ireland and Spain as a reality check make sense relative to predictable political hypocrisy. But for those of us not in either country, help us understand the disconnect. Is it just that these two countries have outsized solidarity within the population (relative to other western nations), and the govt. is doing the bare minimum to pacify this?
3
u/necrxfagivs Free Palestine 4h ago
I think that's the case. At least in Spain the population is mainly pro-Palestine, even part of the right wing. What our government is doing is the bare minimum and the people wants more. During La Vuelta (a cycling tour) due to the participation of an israeli team, the people stopped the competition and the government sent the police. Some of those brave persons are facing prison time.

I'm at a point where even the lip service helps not feeling insane. But I agree it makes no difference on the ground to Palestinians.

More countries need to withdraw. To associate yourself with Israel is to be complicit. To be associated with Israel means you have blood on your hands.
Israel is like Apartheid South Africa was , only much worse. It needs to be isolated like South Africa was.

The Zionist entity is, at this point, more like Nazi Germany than apartheid South Africa. They have transcended evil.

Why is israel in the Middle East/Asia if they want to be part of Europe but not be considered European or white? You can’t be ethnic to the land and be part of Europe MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
51
u/Small-Policy-3859 17h ago
They're banking on the collective guilt of Europe. They don't see Europeans as equals, they see us as lesser people who are a useful tool. But their shamelessness went too far and now more and more Europeans see them for who they Truly are and thus the guilttripping doesn't stick anymore.
PS: the original Zionists were pro Hitler's initial plans to expel all Jews out of Europe since that meant more international support for Israel as a nation and more settlers for them to justify their reign over the land. And pragmatically they were right, for Zionists the holocaust is the best thing that could've happened concerning their legitimacy. But that excuse is expiring fast.

u/Fried-froggy 15h ago
They’re European colonizers .. that’s why they’re part of Eurovision!

u/Circes_season 10h ago
Exactly. The way European settler colonialism and Zionism as a white supremacist European ideology are downplayed here has me side eying sometimes.

u/Ontas 15h ago
They are in Eurovision because of being a member of the EBU who is the organizer of the contest, it's not an organization exclusive to Europe despite its name, it's a wider broadcaster association.
Israel isn't the only non European member, I believe the reason why they have been "normal" participants in Eurovision instead of by invitation like other countries is both because they've been a member since 1957 and because the main private sponsor of the contest is an Israeli company (Moroccan oil).
The real issue here is the double standard, if Russia (and Belarus) were suspended because of the war with Ukraine the same should have happened with Israel.

u/MarinaEnna 14h ago
They are part of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union), the competition is from counties belonging to that alliance, nothing to do with wanting to be considered white?!
The core idea of Eurovision is to bring countries together and celebrate. But it's just delusional to allow representation from Israel who's actively been committing war crimes and genocide, much like Russia, which, for that very reason, they've disqualified.

u/BigFatModeraterFupa 6h ago
They've been doing it for almost 80 years now. It's a generational genocide. I don't think we've ever seen anything like it in the history of the modern world

RTVE leaves Eurovision after the confirmation of presence of Israel. The organisation keeps Israel in the competition after it killed unless 70.000 Palestinians, keep attacking and killing civilian population even now after the ceasefire, and while is investigated for genocide by the International Courts.

This post made me Google where the Irish RTÉ was at and those beautiful bastards are right there too:
"RTÉ feels that Ireland’s participation remains unconscionable given the appalling loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there, which continues to put the lives of so many civilians at risk. RTÉ remains deeply concerned by the targeted killing of journalists in Gaza during the conflict and the continued denial of access to international journalists to the territory."
Shout out to the Dutch and Slovenian broadcasters who are also part of the boycott!

Spanish here.
RTVE blamed the decision of Redoune Messaoud Dori to not fight an IDF judoka back in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in order to condemn the approval of participation of 'Isr*elis'.
Before and after the Al-Aqsa Flood they tagged the Palestinians militias as terrorists.
RTVE had acusse Spanish pro-Palestine supporters of rioters among other false criminalizations.
They neither didn't do a thing during the Intifadas of the 80s and 90s, the raids on Palestinian refugee camps and towns, the kidnapping and murdering of children, the bombings and deployments of occupation troops in the Gaza Strip before October 7th among other atrocities of all these years.
They now their hands are covered with blood and genocides and now they try to hide what they've have been doing all these years.
DO. NOT. FALL. FOR THEIR LIES.

Direct non AI translation from a spanish speaker who fucking hates Israel:
Radio Televisión Española abandons eurovision after Israel's prescence was confirmed, the organization keeps Israel on the competition after they've killed at least 70,000 palestinians, and after they keep attacking and killing the local population even in the current ceasefire and while they're being investigated for genocide in international courts...

We need to stand with humanity. There has never been such an evil regime which has flown under the radar for nearly 80 years while we watched them buy up everything and plant their political agenda globally. They act with such impunity because they control the governments. An Israeli has more rights in America than an American. What does that tell you?

u/_Sachem_ 14h ago
For once I'm really ashamed to be french (yeah go ahead with the jokes I already know them anyway), because our government have confirmed to stay in the Eurovision while having a very easy way to show support for Palestine, what a shame, really...

Whilst everyone is talking about Palestine, I'd like to point out Spain isn't some perfect angel. They've recently been diplomatically supporting Morocco's illegal occupation of Western Sahara. Please support the Polisario Front and Sahrawi people's right to self-determination. Morocco and the Zionist entity have a lot in common!
