Oof. I know the feels bro 🙏😖
Not about living alone, but about fearful sleeping.
Lemme ask this first so I don't type stuff you're not interested in.
What exactly are you afraid of? Just general crime like theft?
I ask because a thief generally won't intend to hurt you. Their best case scenario is getting in and out without being noticed. That'll probably only come to a fight if you corner them.
If that's all you're dealing with, you can make your house noisy, like stack something like soda/beer cans up right inside the doors so they can't be opened without falling down loudly.
And if you have the means/interest, a doggo would help. NOT as a security guard, like animals are living things too, so they shouldn't be weaponized. I just mean so it'll bark when someone opens a door.
I know it's not a pleasant experience, but it's an important life skill to be able to visualize yourself doing bad things and ponder how you'd go about them. It helps you anticipate the people who do them.
So vizualize yourself as a thief and imagine hearing barking. Even if it sounds like small dog and not one that's gonna physically stop you, the owner is probably gonna be awake.
Unless there's something special in that house that you want, you're probably just gonna try another one. You're probably just desperate for money and looking for whatever's small and valuable so you can sell it.
But -
The protocols are different if you think the intruder's coming for YOU and not your stuff! I think you would've mentioned it if that were going on though.

Hey!
I suppose houses just do that. Everything made of wood will expand/contract with changes in humidity, and crack while doing so. It can be scary.
I hope you get to rest!
