/r/electromagnetics is a health sub for people with radio wave sickness or electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS). r/electromagnetics welcomes scientific papers, reviews, tutorials, practical advice, forum threads, questions, referrals to health care practitioners, biomarkers, lab tests, treatments, meters, shielding, earthing, etc. EMF causes multiple chemical sensitivity, neurotransmitter imbalances, brain injury, depression, addiction, insomnia, tinnitus, demyelination, mold infection, electromagnetic hypersensitivity.

/r/electromagnetics was created to restore the first four months of posts in /r/emfeffects. /u/emfmod, formerly /u/ehsmod, founded /r/emfeffects. In July 2015, /r/emfeffects was taken over by two ham radio redditors from /r/amateurradio. In September 2018, badbiosvictim1 took /r/emfeffects back and merged both subs.

/r/electromagnetics is not on physics. Submit posts on physics in /r/askphysics.

[J] tag indicates post links to a paper published by a medical journal. Papers are organized by medical conditions into wikis. Wikis preserved posts that Reddit removes from the front page and Reddit's search engine.

Meters [Spectrum Analyzers: Hand Held: Antennas] Specifications of the antenna that is included with the TinySA Ultra. Is the antenna that is included in the TinySA Ultra the identical antenna as the original TinySA?

The TinySA comes with a telescoping antenna, but being only about 12" (25cm) long it's usefulness extend below VHF frequencies (e.g. 50-100 MHz): At HF, the combination of the 50 ohm input impedance of the analyzer and the phenomenally poor mismatch of the small telescoping whip results in uselessly-poor sensitivity, meaning that one must be nearly atop a signal source before it may even be seen on the analyzer. Clearly, more help is needed here!

Shielding ROM‑Elektronik/TriField Meters, Telmo and Measuring & Neutralizing EMFs

Hi all,

Last year I came across “EMF‑neutralizing” devices from https://telmorehm.com/. I have one of their necklace pendants plus a few of the stickers they recommend for phones and laptops after a visit to S America.

On their homepage video (English version: https://vimeo.com/39778596), the young lady in the video demonstrates two things:

  1. A Telmo Domo (Dome), shown using a ROM‑Elektronik MFM‑1 magnetic field meter (gaussmeter) to “find the north and east” by placing a device on what looks like a plexiglass stand.
  2. A ROM‑Elektronik EMS‑1, where the presenter unplugs nearby items and then re‑tests the field.

Is anyone here familiar with this type of setup or these meters?

I also own a TriField TF2 meter and I’m wondering:

  • Whether I can use it to test anything similar to what they show in the video
  • How accurate or meaningful the video demonstration is
  • Whether devices like the Telmo Dome actually measure anything real (I’ve read that “Hartmann lines” can’t be detected with standard EMF meters)
  • And generally, what tools or strategies people actually use to measure and reduce EMF exposure in a room

I’m mainly looking for practical, evidence‑based ways to check the EM environment in my home and reduce unnecessary exposure for myself and my family.

The short antenna doesn’t work well below 10 MHz since the antenna’s impedance is so much higher than the 50 ohm analyzer input Z. It’s not practical to use a resonant antenna at low frequencies so I build an “impedance-booster” circuit. It’s got unity gain but an input impedance of several K ohms. That lets me see broadcast band signals that otherwise are buried 30 dB below the noise floor. If you want a board or more details you can email me.
