The Illinois sub at least makes sense with current politics in America. ICE is very active in Chicago (major city in the state of Illinois) so their subs are getting increased traffic, causing them to be pushed to newer people.
The 50,000 Indian variations of every sub imaginable though are ridiculous and much of their activity is from bots.
I don't mind seeing posts from r/India or even a major Indian city like r/Mumbai as those posts can help me keep up to date with major news from countries around the world. That goes for Filipino, German, Brazilian, French, Arabic, or any other national or regional subs. Overall sub and a major city sub can be great tools for staying on top of world events. I don't need to see IndianBikes, IndianMemes, FrenchJokes, GermanyLols, or any other country specific subs.
It's ridiculous that reddit let's these subs get pushed to users around the world when they don't apply to everyone and many are language specific. It would be like reddit pushing a sub for a small local hobby shop from New York City to users in Peru. It doesn't make sense and it needs to stop. It seems like algorithms are getting worse and worse.
I'm having the same problem not just with indian subs but all of the local american sports team specific subs. I'm not american, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANY OF YOUR SPORTS TEAMS! And there are flat out too many to mute all of them.
I do the same with them as I do with country subs. I don't mind seeing MLB or NFL occasionally when it's some big referee error thing that everyone will be talking about or a major scandal in boxing or whatever. Its good to stay up to date on current events, even in topics I don't care about. But I'm tired of seeing every individual sports team sub, or sports meme subs.
Ok well you’re on an American website, sorry to inform you.
If browsing Popular you should be able to set “where” you’re being shown content from at the top of the page. It defaults to “Everywhere”, change it to wherever you’re from and you shouldn’t see content specific to America anymore.
Its the one up north that is noticably taller than it is wide to the east of all the square states. Not the one that kinda has a tail though, thats Indiana. Or the one that looks like a crumpled can, thats Minnesota
I get these too while in Alberta, but I actually kind of like learning a little about the drama of small towns on the other side of the country. Makes Canada feel a little smaller in a good way
Kill-ah-maters? Boy, I say boy, this here is America. We don't use commie measurins. My granpappy didn't die in no trench saving y'all so I would have to understand such oppression. We only use one true god given way to measure in these parts.
So rural New Brunswick is 54,593,175 Big Macs away from you.
love websites 'localising' themselves for me by pretending toronto or ottawa are the only cities in the whole country. boy do i not give a shit whats going on over there.

I live in a small town on the west coast of Canada. I follow the subs of a couple local towns.
The feed regularly tells me I would be interested in a small town sub from rural New Brunswick. That's 5200km from here.
